Stage Two

Stage Two

Literacy:

  • Theme and Representation - In the unit “No One Is Too Little To Make A Difference!” students will broaden their knowledge of current events that affect the world around them as they learn to analyse and evaluate sources of information and reflect on their own individual experiences and contexts. They will express their values and opinions using a diverse range of modes and mediums. Students will create and reflect on how to effectively express their ideas about human experiences through the deliberate construction or oral, visual and written responses and texts.

  • Spelling - Students will continue to engage in the Soundwaves program. The following sounds will be covered this term: ‘p’ as in pig, ‘r’ as in robot, ‘ar’ as in star, ‘s’ as in seal, ‘ir’ as in bird, ‘t’ as in tiger, ‘or’ as in horse, ‘v’ as in vase, ‘w’ as in web and ‘oo’ as in book.

Numeracy:

Throughout Term 3, we will be learning about the following concepts:

Whole Number - Recognising that place value is the value of each digit in a number.

Fractions and Decimals - The place value system can be extended to tenths and hundredths, and make connections between fractions and decimal notation.

Addition and Subtraction - Using a range of addition and subtraction strategies to solve rich tasks.

Length - Using scaled instruments to measure and compare lengths.

Area - Recognising and using formal units to measure and estimate the areas of rectangles.

Time - Reading simple timetables, timelines and calendars, as well as using am and pm notations.

Position - Creating and interpreting simple grid maps, as well as using simple scales, legends and directions to interpret information contained in maps.

Mass - The metric system of mass and common units, such as grams and kilograms.

Multiplication - Using a range of multiplication strategies to solve rich tasks.

2D Space - Identifying symmetry and creating symmetrical patterns, pictures and shapes.

Other Key Learning Areas:

Geography - Students explore the climate, natural vegetation and native animals of places in Australia and China. They develop an understanding of the diversity of living things, how they affect each other, and the interdependence of living things and the environment. They examine the importance of natural vegetation and natural resources and learn about the ways people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, value environments. Students identify sustainable practices, recognising that there are differing views on how sustainability can be achieved and they recognise how science knowledge helps people to understand the effect of their actions on the environment. Students create an improved waste collection process to demonstrate how waste can be managed more sustainably in their local area or school.

PDH - Students will be learning about Child Protection. This will assist students to develop skills in recognising and responding to unsafe situations, seeking assistance effectively and establishing and maintaining non-coercive relationships and strengthening attitudes and values related to equality, respect and responsibility.

PE Students will apply and refine movement skills and movement concepts in a range of physical activity contexts. They will create and perform sequences using movement skills and concepts with consistency and control. Students will demonstrate cooperation and collaboration in movement and physical activity. They will select and demonstrate strategies that help them to solve movement challenges.

Students will participate in House vs House sport for one hour a week on Friday mornings. Students will participate in four different non-contact sports (due to COVID-19), rotating each week. This term, the sport program offers:

  • Newcombe ball

  • Golden Child

  • Dance Off/Dodgeball

  • Aboriginal games

C.A.P.A

Homework:

Each week, students will practice their spelling words. Along with this, students have access to Soundwaves online (spelling), Reading Eggspress, Epic and PM eCollection (reading), and Prodigy (mathematics) to refine their skills.

Students have the opportunity to upload their reading from home onto Seesaw for their teacher/class to see.

Every few weeks, students will have a Passion Project to hand in and present. This can be presented by any medium, on any topic - an area that the student feels passionate about.

Also this term, students will write a speech at home, based on any topic of their choice, to participate in the Penrith Valley Speaking Competition.
