Banana Water

Students preparing banana water

Banana Water is a liquid fertiliser for the garden.

To make banana water, you need to have banana skins and an empty container. We used old milk containers. After cutting the skins into smaller pieces, you put them in the container and then fill with water. Allow to soak for 3-4 days. Before using on the garden, you need to strain the banana peels out of the container.

Our gardens have loved the extra care and nutrients provided.

Clean Up Australia Day

Students with gloves on

On Friday 5 March, we participated in Clean Up Australia Day for schools. Students put on their gloves, grabbed a bucket and got busy collecting litter from around the school grounds.

Students also made a pledge to show how they could help reduce litter and waste all year round.

World Bee Day

World bee day text

In the lead up to World Bee Day, we have been sharing our knowledge about bees and learning more about these extremely important insects.

During our lessons, some students built bee hotels and bee baths, learnt about the life cycle of a honey bee, completed a garden audit to see if our gardens are bee friendly, while others used honey to make delicious whole wheat honey muffins.

World Environment Day

Students joined in different activites across the week to raise awareness and promote action to protect our environment. We read books about how to look after the environment, upcycled old items around the school into new garden beds, picked up rubbish, learnt about how long it takes for plastic to start to break down and completed a less to landfill challenge to reduce our plastic consumption.

This years theme was #beatplasticpollution. We ask you....what can you do today to reduce the amount of plastic you use?

Gardening

Seedling

We have been busy in our gardens growing our winter vegetables and herbs. Classes have spent time maintaining the gardens, planting, watering, adding banana water and watching the seedlings grow.

Looking forward to harvest time!
